1. Plan how you will count and which tools you will use. (Count by 1s? 5s? 10s? Use ten frames? Cups? Bowls?) 2. Count 3. Record thinking (not just the answer, how did you count?) 4. Compare collections. (Which has more and how do you know?) I knew it had more because 109 is more than 66. I knew it because that one had more tens than the other collection. 109 is further down on the counting chart, so it must be more. 66 come before 109 on the number line, so it must be less. If I look at the picture, that one has more bowls than the other one.
